MCAT Tutor Memorization, the Dark Side of the MCAT
And milk, too? When used correctly, memorization can be one of the most powerful tools available to increase the power of your MCAT preparation. Building a solid foundation of information which you call on so often that it becomes second nature will increase your speed and accuracy on the MCAT. But memorization is a difficult thing; it takes time and effort to learn how to learn. Even super skilled MCAT biology tutors in New York have had to spend precious months and brain cells honing this skill. So in this blog post, Iââ¬â¢m going to discuss the best ways that Iââ¬â¢ve found to get facts into my brain. Iââ¬â¢ll also talk about some examples of information which are probably important. Up until a few months ago, like any good liberal arts college student, I hated memorization. It always seemed like a huge waste of time to cram information into your head when the formula, date, or fact were available in a book or on the internet. When I took the MCAT, and during my first years doing private MCAT biology tutoring in New York, I felt the same way. But, after my first semester of medical school, Iââ¬â¢ve come to realize that having a number of facts (formulas, relationships of information) in your back pocket is absolutely necessary. While itââ¬â¢s never enough on its own, memorization is nonetheless an important component of MCAT success. So, whatââ¬â¢s the best way to get this kind of material into your head? How to Memorize Most Effectively By far, the most useful tool that Iââ¬â¢ve found for memorizing information has been Anki. Itââ¬â¢s a free program which just displays user-made (or downloaded) flashcards. On the surface, the program takes a stack of paper flashcards and makes it easier to access. But, more importantly, Anki uses a concept called spaced-repetition to make sure that you donââ¬â¢t forget information over the long term. You know how material presented in a class can seem so simple when itââ¬â¢s presented, but when you review your notes a week later, they seem incomprehensible? Spaced-repetition exists to keep information fresh. The program keeps track of how long it has been since youââ¬â¢ve dug around in your brain for the equation for free-falling objects or what effect aldosterone has on the body. Far too often, Iââ¬â¢ve heard students Iââ¬â¢ve worked with (early in the course of working with them) say that theyââ¬â¢ve ââ¬Å"looked over the material lots of times, but it never seems to stick.â⬠By forcing active recall, rather than passively reading over notes, programs like Anki or practice questions will improve the efficiency of your learning. This website, by far has some of the most useful information on how to structure your flashcards to maximize your learning. (Skip to the bottom for the 20 rules to formulating knowledge, but the entire essay is actually worth it). Se e if you can integrate MCAT review into routine New York life and slowly build up those memorization muscles. Understand the material first! I am in no way advocating blind memorization. Itââ¬â¢s important to first understand the material, then use programs like Anki to keep these concepts fresh in your mind. Supplementing regular work with flashcards will make you much more familiar with the material. Working with a private MCAT biology tutor in New York is a great way to get the initial understanding down, but at some point, facts like the functions of hormones, basic equations, and a few constants have to be inside your head. As a first-year medical student, youââ¬â¢ll be required to memorize all kinds of facts about the human body (and even more stuff later on), so why not start practicing how to commit things to memory now? Feeling a little overwhelmed by all this content? Here's a rundown of how the MCAT is changing in 2015 to help you get on your game. Cambridge Coaching is also happy to help out -- if you need private MCAT tutoring in New York, Boston, or online, don't hesitate to drop us a note! ;

The Chalice And The Blade, By Charlotte Bronte And A...
Dominant and recessive genes. The genes that make up who we are. The genes that make us special and unique. There are billions of combinations of genes just as there are humans in the world. Each dominant gene masks the appearance of the recessive, the weaker gene. Like these dominant genes, throughout history men have dominated every aspect of life, pushing the women, who are symbolized by the recessive genes, to the sidelines. Women have always been present in the evolution of the world, but their role has been blinded by the superiority and the dictatorship of men. In The Chalice and The Blade, Riane Eisler introduces the two basic models of society: a dominator model, where one half of society is favored over the other, and aâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Although she has no significance in the family and knew she was going to be punished for her misbehavior, she wasnââ¬â¢t afraid to defend her actions. The disappointment of the failed pregnancies lowers her self-esteem but it makes her a stronger person as she is able to fight the agony. Mariam does not let Rasheedââ¬â¢s dominator values of intimidation restrict her to live a courageous life. Restricted by dominator values, both Jane and Mariam are able to overcome the barrier created by these values and develop the partnership value of courage. In times of hardship, both Jane and Mariam find a hopeful light through the partnership value of friendship. In

The inflation rate is 5.5% in 2012. However, it is predicted that the inflation for 2013 rise to 6% and that the economic growth for the same year will be around 3%, which is bad news for the Brazilian economy taking into account that most others emerging economies, including Latin America are doing much better (Wrong numbers, 2013). In 2012 Brazilââ¬â¢s economy in terms of GDP was considered larger than UKââ¬â¢s. Nevertheless, accordingly to the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) during this year the UK will overpass again Brazil in the GDP ranking, and it wonââ¬â¢t be due to UK well performance but due to Brazilââ¬â¢s fall. Shakespeare present Iagos manipulation of Othello free essay sample
How does Shakespeare present Iagos manipulation of Othello? Shakespeare uses a number of techniques to express the manipulaton of Iago in this scene. He lies to Othello in a barefaced manner, as we know from earlier context, in which we see Iago slandering Othello to his friend Roderigo, in the first scene of the book, showing that from the outset Iago has been against Othello, and this facade of trying to help him out immediately tells us he is not to be trusted. From what we have already learnt it is apparent that Iago is a classic Machiavellian stereotype; he goes out of his way to upset others, seemingly for little reason other han his own entertainment, and we know that he is set to destroy Othello, hence why he is planting doubt in his mind that his wife Desdemona is cheating on him with Michael Cassio. He asks Othello the question, Did Michael Cassio, when you wooed my lady, know of your love? Othello replies He did from first to last. We will write a custom essay sample on Shakespeare present Iagos manipulation of Othello or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Why dost thou ask? And Iago rather cunningly responds with But for a satisfaction of my thought no further harm which translates as l was Just curious, no reason. This is clear reverse psychology which is a key symbol of manipulation. He basically wants to innocently lant the idea in Othellos mind, that he should be concerned about it. This has clearly worked as Othello responds with a question why of thy thought? This scene includes chaining conversation, but instead of the traditional question and answer format, it is question after question, which is representative of the confusion in Othellos mind, planted by Iago, it could symbolize his thoughts as they occur, like a subliminal narration. There is a repetition of the word honest, which is a stark contrast, representing the opposite of Iago but yet he is talking about it as if he understands. It is ironic how he speaks of how he thinks Michael Cassio is not honest, as we know it is the other way round, and that Iago is the liar in this situation. It is in this Scene we see the first warning signs of Othellos impending delusion. Up until this point the act has consisted mainly of chaining of simple conversation, however upon having these terrible thoughts planted in his mind, Othello enters an extended dialogue, accusing Iago of hiding something from him, which is foreshadowing as we know he thinks the same of Desdemona further along in the play. Iago replies of My lord, you know I love you. This could easily be compared to the earlier statement from Iago l do hate the moor. There is a great contrast between these two quotes as they portray completely different messages, one truthful and one a lie. In the first he refers to Othello as The Moor. In the second he refers to him as My lord. The use of the word The, signifies that Iago doesnt see Othello as a real person, more an object, and the word moor is highly derogatory, as it is labelling him purely on his ethnicity. This is perfect to compare with My lord as the use of my represents a false closeness between Othello and Iago, it is much ore personal, and implies Iago holds Othello close to his heart. And the title Lord signifies how Iago is making out that Othello is his superior; he addresses him with a title instead of simply with a trait. In conclusion. This goes to show that Iago is a cunning character, as he is planting ideas in Othellos, and manipulating him with something he cares deeply about, which speaks volumes about his personality. It is almost as if the characters are chess pieces and Iago is the player, the way he controls and plots them against each other, which ultimately leads to their demises.
